The Embassy of Pakistan in Washington marked Independence Day with a formal flag-hoisting ceremony attended by members of the Pakistani-American community, diplomats and media representatives. Ambassador Rizwan Saeed Sheikh led the proceedings, which included the national anthem and messages focusing on unity, national progress and Pakistan’s future.

A central moment of the ceremony was the unveiling of a statue of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The monument, donated by the Quaid-e-Azam Foundation of Houston, has been placed at the embassy as a permanent tribute to Pakistan’s founding leader and his constitutional struggle for an independent homeland.

Addressing the gathering, Ambassador Sheikh reflected on the sacrifices made during the independence movement and the determination of families who left their homes to help build Pakistan. He described the country’s creation as a remarkable achievement shaped by leadership, collective effort and a shared national purpose.

The ambassador urged Pakistanis living in the United States to remain connected with the country and to uphold the principles of unity, faith and discipline. He said the diaspora continues to play an important role in strengthening Pakistan’s international relationships and contributing to its economic and social development.

The ceremony also recognised the service of Pakistan’s armed forces, law-enforcement agencies and police personnel. The programme concluded with a renewed commitment to national cohesion, responsible citizenship and the values associated with Quaid-e-Azam’s vision for a stable and prosperous Pakistan.
