Islamabad Announces Revised Business Timings Under Energy Conservation Plan

By axispkk · Jun 01, 2026

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad administration has issued a new notification introducing revised business operating hours across the federal capital as part of broader energy conservation measures, effective from June 1.

Under the new schedule, all markets and shopping malls in Islamabad will be required to close by 8:00pm, according to the official notification.

Authorities have also directed restaurants, food outlets, tandoors, grocery stores, bakeries, vegetable and fruit shops to end operations by 10:00pm. The same deadline will apply to marriage halls, marquees and private event gatherings across the capital.

However, takeaway and home-delivery services will remain exempt from the restrictions. Essential services including hospitals, pharmacies, medical laboratories and medical stores will also continue operating without time limitations.

The notification further exempts petrol pumps, CNG stations, milk and dairy outlets, allowing them to function under normal business hours. Likewise, IT companies, call centres, gyms, padel courts and sports facilities will not be subject to the revised closure timings.

Officials say the move forms part of Islamabad’s wider effort to reduce electricity consumption, improve energy efficiency and regulate commercial activity during peak usage hours.

The revised framework comes amid continuing national discussions around energy management, fuel costs and conservation policies, with authorities seeking a balance between economic activity and reduced power consumption.
