Iran Rejects Reports Claiming President Pezeshkian’s Resignation

By axispkk · Jun 01, 2026

TEHRAN: Iranian authorities have dismissed reports alleging that President Masoud Pezeshkian submitted his resignation, describing the claims as false and politically motivated.

The clarification followed media reports suggesting that President Pezeshkian had allegedly sent an official resignation letter to the Office of Iran’s Supreme Leader amid reported internal political tensions.

Responding to the speculation, Mehdi Tabatabaei, Deputy Head of Communications at Iran’s Presidential Office, rejected the reports in a statement shared on X.

He termed the claims “false” and accused certain foreign media outlets of engaging in what he described as continued “media games” aimed at fuelling political narratives around Iran’s leadership.

The reports had cited unnamed sources alleging disagreements within Iran’s governing structure and claimed that the civilian administration was facing growing institutional pressure. However, Iranian officials have publicly denied any resignation move by the president.

The development comes at a sensitive time for Iran, as the country continues to navigate political, economic and regional pressures amid heightened scrutiny of its internal decision-making and leadership dynamics.

No independent confirmation has emerged supporting the resignation claims.
