ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has once again extended an invitation to opposition parties for dialogue, emphasizing the need for political consensus, national unity, and collective efforts to address Pakistan’s challenges and ensure long-term stability.
Addressing the National Assembly, the prime minister said Parliament represents the democratic will of all provinces and serves as the central platform for resolving national issues. He stressed that political differences should not overshadow the country’s broader interests.
“The opposition members are our brothers. We have no personal enmity with them,” the premier said, calling for a more cooperative political environment focused on national development rather than confrontation.
Recalling his time in opposition, Shehbaz Sharif noted that he had repeatedly advocated for a “Charter of Economy” to build cross-party consensus on key economic reforms. He expressed regret that the proposal did not materialize but reiterated his willingness to engage with all political stakeholders in the national interest.
“I once again invite the opposition to sit together for dialogue. It is never too late to work collectively for Pakistan’s future,” he said.
The prime minister underscored that Pakistan’s progress depends on unity, mutual respect, and sincerity among political leaders. He maintained that a strong and stable Pakistan benefits all political parties and citizens alike.
Tribute to Martyrs and Security Forces
During his address, Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to the Pakistan Army personnel who embraced martyrdom in the recent Mi-17 helicopter crash near Muzaffarabad. He praised the sacrifices of the armed forces and reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to honoring those who lay down their lives in service of the country.
The premier also highlighted ongoing security challenges, including terrorist attacks in various parts of the country, particularly in Balochistan. He defended measures such as border fencing along the Pakistan-Afghanistan frontier, describing them as essential for safeguarding national security.
“Our soldiers continue to make immense sacrifices so that future generations may live in peace and security. Their courage and dedication deserve the nation’s utmost respect,” he said.
Focus on Provincial Development
The prime minister reiterated the federal government’s commitment to equitable development across all provinces, emphasizing that every province has an unquestionable right to benefit from its natural resources.
Referring to the Reko Diq mining project, he described the agreement as an example of inclusive development achieved through consultation with stakeholders in Balochistan. He said the province’s participation in the project reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring local communities benefit from major economic initiatives.
Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted the importance of the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, noting that Balochistan’s share was significantly increased under the 2010 arrangement with the support of other provinces.
Infrastructure and Economic Initiatives
The premier outlined several development initiatives aimed at supporting economic growth and improving livelihoods. He noted that the federal government has allocated substantial resources for solarization projects benefiting farmers in Balochistan and is investing heavily in road infrastructure, including the expansion of the Gwadar-Chaman highway corridor.
He said such projects are designed to strengthen connectivity, promote economic activity, and create opportunities for communities across underserved regions.
Concluding his address, the prime minister reaffirmed that political harmony and national cohesion remain essential for Pakistan’s prosperity.
“No sacrifice is too great for the future of Pakistan. All political and national forces must work together to ensure stability, development, and progress for generations to come,” he said.
